Simplify Your Life: 7 Steps to Managing Life's Stressors

To deal with life's stressors, you have to simplify your life. Too many of us live complicated lives, carry unnecessary burdens, repeat unhealthy patterns, and agree to demands that leave us feeling overwhelmed.
God's Word provides wisdom for life's troubles. By renewing our minds, guarding our hearts, and trusting God, we can learn to approach life with greater awareness and intentionality.
Step 1: Slow Down
“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10 (KJV)
Take time to pause. You cannot effectively address what you have not taken the time to acknowledge. Slow down long enough to recognize what is happening around you and within you.
Step 2: Identify Your Behavioral Patterns
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)
Pay attention to the patterns that influence how you think, feel, and respond.
A — Anxious, Avoidant, Annoyed
B — Belittled, Beneath, Buried
C — Constrained, Constructed, Criticized
D — Default, Demand, Destruct
Awareness helps you recognize patterns and make intentional choices about how you respond.
Step 3: Remember That Perfectionism Is Optional
“My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV)
You have to learn to be all right with things being good enough. Everything does not have to be perfect to be meaningful or complete. Give yourself permission to do your best without demanding perfection from yourself.
Step 4: Allow Each Day to Be Different
“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24 (KJV)
Today does not have to look like tomorrow and tomorrow does not have to look like yesterday. Give yourself room to grow, adjust, and approach each day with a fresh perspective.
Step 5: Prepare for the Day Ahead
“The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.” Proverbs 21:5 (KJV)
Take time to prepare. Identify the essentials you need to get through the day. Organize your responsibilities, plan your schedule, and make room for rest. Preparation can help reduce unnecessary stress.
Step 6: Do Not Return to What You Have Been Delivered From
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free.” Galatians 5:1 (KJV)
If you have been delivered from a circumstance, situation, or addiction, be intentional about not returning to what once held you captive. Moving forward requires choices that support your freedom and growth. Protect the progress you have made and seek support when needed.
Step 7: Embrace the Small Pleasures in Life
“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine.” Proverbs 17:22 (KJV)
Do not overlook the little things that bring joy, peace, and encouragement to your life. Enjoy a quiet moment, a favorite song, time outdoors, a cup of your favorite drink, the scenic route home, or a meaningful podcast. Small intentional choices provide the encouragement and momentum we need to keep going.
"Simplifying your life does not mean eliminating every challenge. It means approaching life with greater awareness, healthier boundaries, and more intentional choices while trusting God to guide your steps." M. Bolden
